Archaeological Museum in Rabat

Description of architects. The Archaeological Museum in Rabat is part of the program to build an archaeological museum and earth sciences for the Ministry of Culture of Morocco. This project includes an environmental process linking visual comfort and collection preservation, rainwater recovery and energy creation (through solar cells).
Our decision is directly related to the topics related to the museum, with an anchor on the ground, as close to the ground, its topography, archeology. We want an entry in depth, to immerse the visitor directly in the sciences and subjects exposed and developed in the museum.

The architecture is mineral, because it refers to the components of our planet and is in motion, articulated as a skeleton for its arches of different heights and lengths. The building is not a solid block, on the contrary, respects the visual harmony of the Pavillon Lyautey and scale of the surrounding buildings, creating a soft link with the nearby gardens.

The arch is a significant and constitutive element of the project. It offers fluid spaces, adapted to different exhibition themes, required volume and surfaces. On the facades Games shadows and highlights. The arches are built with the topography, they enter the garden allowing vegetation to leak through it.

The structure creates a lively urban promenade museum since Roosevelt Avenue. The size of the arches, generous height can be adjusted according to the needs and program developments. The bows of different levels, courtyards, openings on the garden, create beautiful bright t environments with a dim light coming from the north and south light captured alive through the Arab-Moorish designed by photovoltaic cells motives.

This project includes an environmental process linking visual comfort and collection preservation, rainwater recovery and energy creation (through solar cells). Divided into three gardens (garden representations, Arabic-Moorish garden and playful garden) park refers to the relationship between man and the earth and science. The gardens maintain a continuity with the exhibition spaces and also spaces for visits and discovery, accompanied by glazed windows.

The outlook of the gardens from the Pavillon Lyautey, created from the contemporary building, ensure a link that unifies the three gardens. a simple and durable due to the sobriety of the project plastic, permanence of architecture and design of the environment is created. It is a sober support and allows you to highlight the richness and diversity of the collections on display. It is a didactic support for the dissemination of universal knowledge and Moroccan culture.
