The Museum of Asian art of Corfu is located in the palace of San Miguel and San Jorge, the Palacio Real Corfu, at the northern end of the Spianada square, it is the only museum of this category of Greece and one of the largest in Europe .
The building is of neoclassical style and has three floors, the objects are displayed on the ground floor and first floor have been refurbished for the occasion.
It has more than 11,000 pieces, covering the period of the XI centuries B.C. until the twentieth century D.C.
Predominate objects from China and Japan with more than 10,000, followed by elements of Tibet, Korea, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Thailand and Cambodia.
On the first floor on the east side are the collections of China, and the west side are collections of Japan. Collections of other countries are conditioned between these two groups. The museum has specialized laboratories for the conservation of different materials such as paper, wood, ceramic, and metal, are also stores, offices, a photographic archive, a library and a reading room.
The museum is growing thanks to private donations from different people, many ambassadors as Grigorios Manos, who gave his collection of more than 10,500 objects from China, Korea and Japan.
In the museum there are ceramics, metal artifacts, paintings, woodcuts, sculptures Thai, Indian, Pakistani, also highlights grecobudistas Gadara sculptures, weapons, Korean and Japanese tapestries, Persian carpets, ceramics and Chinese furniture collections and many more.
There are 341 pieces of Chinese ceramics export from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries.
The Asian Art Museum is coordinating temporary exhibitions, also collaborates with other related specialists and museums with similar interests.
